About the Workshops
The singing and choral weeks are often conducted and coached by Maria Thijssen, but we very regularly invite guest conductors (Tobias Segura Peralta is the returning conductor of Les Voix d’Anrosey) or other vocal or instrumental collaborators. In the last years we have also organized a special writing week, because we enjoy them so much. In 2023 Manon Uphoff en Iris van Vliet gave a very inspiring workshop and last year the theme was songwriting for theatre, taught by Dorine Wiersma and Mylou Frencken, which was a lot of fun.
The number of participants is usually minimum 8, maximum 12, also depending on the theme. It is possible that the group be larger, with additional accommodation nearby.
Arrival is usually on Sunday, we then meet in the late afternoon for an aperitif, a welcome drink followed by a shared meal where we get to know each other. Departure is on Sunday morning after breakfast.
Rehearsals will take place from Monday through Saturday mornings. We usually work in the morning from 10:00 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 16:00 we work either with the whole group or in small groups with or without accompaniment on special things that come up during the morning rehearsal. On Wednesday afternoon we have free time (by agreement) and Saturday there is a dress rehearsal in the morning and usually at the end of the afternoon the concert. In weeks with a lighter program we only work in the morning, usually from 10 to 13.00.
We try as much as possible to coincide with painting weeks at Lodewijk Thijssen. There is the possibility to combine the choir week with a painting week, for example if you want to bring someone along who prefers painting to singing. All can be organized.
Each week results in an exhibition and one or two concerts in one of the beautiful old churches in the area or at another location. We now have a good reputation and the concerts are generally well attended. After the concert there is an amazing buffet in our garden, that has become sort of legendary, and hosts a maximum of 35 people, so you can bring your audience, if you like.
Lunch and dinner are prepared by professional chefs, usually under the direction of chef Monneke Peters of La Tapassionata. Breakfast is self-service; everything is provided. Table clearing and dishwashing are arranged between us, everything else is taken care of.
